The panoramic views from the lush green valley let you take in the vast expanse of the surrounding mountains and lakes that are spread across this region. Hunza is probably Pakistan's most popular tourist valley. It is an area fill with lakes surrounded by beautiful rugged, snowcapped mountains. Only at a distance of 100 Kms from Gilgit, Hunza is a small town on the Karakoram Highway. At an altitude of 7000 - 8000 feet, it is the first main town or stop if you cross the Chinese border. The central Hunza region is known as Karimabad and is a small town consisting of just 6 villages. These villages have spectacular views of the Rakaposhi mountain. The first main villages as you come from Gilgit is Aliabad and just above this village are the 2 historical sites;
  1. Altit and Baltit forts. The Baltit fort has recently been restored and converted into a guided museum.
  2. Duikar: At a height of 10000 feet above sea level this is an unbelievable spot to watch the sunrise unfold. At such a height you are able to observe 8 peaks above 7000 meters. Each of the 8 peaks glisten separately as the sun’s rays slowly work their way round to each peak independently.
