The tour can encompass several of these stupas, monasteries and and historical sites dating back to the very beginning of Buddhism over 2000 years ago. Location & Detailed Plan
Discover the wonders of Pakistan in our Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour as we embark on a drive through the winding mountainous Swat region which form part of the Hindu Kush mountain range and explore the UNESCO Heritage sites of Taxila and Takht-i-Bahi. The plan and itinerary shall be finalised with input form the travelling coordinator. As an example please see below an 8 day tour. This 8 days tour starts upon arrival at Islamabad International Airport. Your guide will meet and greet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel for 2-3 hours rest. We will hold a group briefing on the tour, health & safety and other paperwork. Time permitting, a short city tour of Islamabad can be arranged for late afternoon or early evening. Day 2 shall commence with a trip to the UNESCO Heritage Site of Taxila, visiting prominent sites such as the Dharmarajika Stupa & Monastery, Bhir Mound and Mohra Moradu. We shall return to the hotel in Islamabad. The next day shall see the tour return to Taxila to complete the 2nd set of attractions including Sleeping Buddha, Sirkap – Double Headed Eagle, Jandial Temple, Jaulian Stupa and Monastery and finally the Jain Temple before moving onwards to Swat for the next stage of the tour. Swat shall act as a base for the next few days as we explore the local and regional sites. Breakfast shall be followed by a short trip to Swat Museum and shopping at the local Bazaar is followed by visits to the Saidu Sharif Stupa & Tomb, Butkara I and Butkara III Heritage sites. Return to hotel in Swat. The next day shall form the 2nd part of the Swat Tour and covers attraction and sites such as Ghaligai, the Shingardar Stupa, the Hollow Stupa and Gumbatona Stupa. The 3rd and final part of our Swat tour concludes with a visit to the Nemogram Monastery & Stupa, Andan Dheri Stupa, the Chatpat Ruins and the Seated Buddha. We would return to Swat for overnight stay. Following breakfast, the tour shall head to Takht-i-Bahi (UNESCO Heritage Site) and finally head back to the hotel in Islamabad. The final day would include a farewell brief by the guide and a drop to the airport. Flight times permitting one of the following activities can be incorporated on the last day.- *Buddha Caves
